A Ruby-throated Hummingbird stands guard near a feeder in my garden in Greer, South Carolina. The male Ruby-throated Hummingbirds throat feathers get their color by refracting light, so the color will depend on the angle of the light striking the throat.
I have always loved being in the outdoors. In addition to photography, a few of my favorite activities include hiking, bird-watching, attending airshows and growing orchids. I enjoy working in my yard and have planted numerous flowers, shrubs and trees that attract a wide variety of birds and butterflies. The changing seasons mean there's always something new to see through the lens of my camera, and capturing the beauty of nature brings me great joy.
